Chrissy and the Candidate

Tuesday, June 16, 2009
I have spent the past month co-producing Vote-N-Style: a fashion show/birthday mixer/fundraiser/afterwork event for Mr. Saquan Jones, a candidate for Brooklyn's 36th District Council Seat.

Forgive all of the slashes but the event will truly bring together political constituents, unique fashions, music, models (and a little mayhem) benefiting the "Turning Adversity to Advantage Campaign"...all on the candidate's birthday!

ChrissyandtheCity Talent has partnered with Executive Lifestyle Group's "Mister B" on this a special event and we're excited for tomorrow, June 17th when the doors of BLVD open and the models take to the runway for an awesome cause so hope to see you then!

Chrissy and the Henny

Monday, June 15, 2009

Some blame it on the goose, but it's definitely the Henny!

I've recently become a sampling agent for Moet-Hennessy and it allows me exclusive access to the most exciting events around NYC.

Last week, i was able to treat patrons at Taj and Fisheye to the deliciously smooth taste of Hennessy Black. Hennessy Black is still an awesome cognac, but with a now whopping 86% alcohol content and smooth taste made for cocktail mixing.

Ask your fave bartender to try this recipe for Hennessy Black Berries:
-2 parts Hennessy Black
-3.5 parts Cranberry Juice
-2.5 parts Apple Juice
-1 dash of Lime Juice

Oh and did I forget to mention that Hennessy Black is not yet sold in stores? Don't fret! Have a taste on me by following my twitter updates to see where ChrissyandtheCity will be next....

Chrissy and the St. Claire

Tuesday, March 31, 2009
On Sunday March 29th, I had the pleasure of planning an event sponsored by Souls of My Sisters Books/Kensington Publishing which honored author and architect, Carole St. Claire Richards. Carole is a dynamic African-American female architect and real-estate developer whose journey is printed in the soon-to-be released "Tears for Triumph: Learn, Live and Thrive" (September 2009).

The event was well attended and the invite-only guest list included:

  • Reverend Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III, Pastor of the nationally renowned Abyssinian Baptist Church in the City of New York, and President of SUNY College at Old Westbury (pictured with Carole).

  • LadyBird Strickland, African-American artist best known for a long line of works documenting African American culture beginning in the 1940s.

  • Reverend Al Sharpton-minister, political and civil rights/social justice activist, and radio talk show host (pictured with Ladybird Strickland; Carole and husband, Skip).
  • Aliyyah Baylor, cake decorator and owner of Harlem's deliciously infamous bakery Make My Cake whose clients include the New York Knicks (pictured with Souls of My Sisters authors/editors Candace Sandy & Dawn Marie Daniels).

More pics of the event are available by clicking here.

Chrissy and the Carib

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

Attention!! I'm excited to report that starting tomorrow 3/18, we will be featuring a Caribbean menu and Shandys will be on sale at the bar during my weekly afterwork - "We Go Hard Wednesdays" @ 507 Bar & Grill.

Last week turned into a real carnival fete (meaning party for those of non-west indian decent lol) and it is only fitting that we cater to the real FOBs (fresh-of-the-boat) and wannabe yardies (anyone from Flatbush *smile*) by offering items that truly make 507 feel like the bar where everybody knows your name (Hey gyal/boi).

So I hope to see ya out again this week as the weather should be real nice tonight. For those who missed out, we welcome ya to join us for great music by DJs Blu Boi and Biggs, hosted by Slim and yours truly. And don't worry, all immigration officers will be checked at the door- Ha!

To Whom Much is Given...Get to Drinking!

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

Who: Schuyler Heads

What: Afterwork Reunion

Where: 507 Grand Street (btwn Union & Lorimer) Brooklyn

When: This Wednesday 3/11/09 from 6pm-12am

Why: Cuz to whom much is given...ya'll know the rest!

So I was on facebook hitting up some dear old friends I'd like to see at my afterwork this week and realized that my oldest and dearest ones were all Schuyler heads. I'm usually not in town when our beloved Shanay hosts her impromptu reunion bar-b-ques so I miss out on seeing my middle school peoples

So tomorrow I've decided to invite all you Schuyler heads to come thru after 6pm from your daily grinds and chop it up like we used to :) I'll even name a drink after us...how about the Schuyler-tini? Yeah I like the sound of that!

Fellow Schuyler alum, Jason Clinton, is now the infamous DJ Blu (aka BluBoi aka my Bajan Turntable Superhero) and we just might get him to spin some of that old school Mary J. mixed with a little Jagged Edge! Hey "memories don't live like people do..."

Chrissy and the Mackerel

Monday, March 9, 2009
The premier of ChrissyandtheCity presents...We Go Hard Wednesdays @ 507 Bar&Grill on 3/4/09 totally exceeded my expectations! The crowd was definitely grown & sexy! JetBlu played all the latest tunes from Reggae to Hip-Hop to R&B and then shut it down with a wicked Soca set around midnight! The Bajan in me really let loose when DJs Biggs and BluBoi played one of the hottest singles "Go Stabbi"...let's just say what happens at 507 stays at 507!

I was definitely delighted when reggae artist Major Mackerel, his manager Jerry, and Vincent of King Crown Radio graced us with their presence after special invitation by Slim of JetBlu Music Group.

Thank you to all who supported our first event last week! I can't wait for this Wednesday as we have a few surprises in store! For info on our Birthday packages email events@Chrissyandthecity.com.

How to Lose a Girl in 10 Days...

Wednesday, February 11, 2009
Easy, just take her to White Castle on Valentine's Day!

A friend recently asked me for inexpensive ways to celebrate with her beau this upcoming weekend and after some research I gave her very personal and unique ideas that are sure to make their day special way outside of flowers, candy and the cliche stroll in Central Park.

Afterwards I continued my search for unconventional ways to shower the one you love with...um, love. Anyways, I came across some good, some bad and some just down-right nutty that I'd like to share with you. Below please find a list of cheap (or even free!) Valentine's Day Events for all of my Recessionistas:

1) White Castle- Did you now that at select locations, White Castle is offering sit-down, waitered service complete with candle-light, red table clothes and a special couples menu. Yes, crazy I know! But it would definitely make for a great "How I met your mother" story...NOT! Strangely enough, reservations are going fast in NYC, so click HERE to make yours today.

2) The PIT Dating Game @ the Peoples Improv Theatre- Ever wonder about what kind of people go on those crazy dating shows in search of love? Well, wonder no more because at the Peoples Improv Theatre, three singles will actually take the stage armed with outrageous questions to chose their Valentine's Day match. For only $12, you can be there live watching all the magic unfold. Past "winners" have gone on to get married, one couple has a baby and another is expecting. Go check out where that little naked baby points his arrow again this year...Click Here for tickets.

3) He's Just Not That Into You- So I haven't seen this movie yet but I heard it's pretty darn good whether you're single, on a first date or out with your other half. Starring a ridiculous surplus of Hollywood eye-candy from Scarlette Johanson to Ben Affleck, this film is sure to start a couple of great debates about that cat-and-mouse-game we call dating. About $9 and playing at a theater near you!

Grammy Whistles & Whammys

Monday, February 9, 2009

I can't help but read up on all the post-Grammy gossip trades from Media Take Out and Yahoo's OMG! to PR Guru Alyson Campbell's blog. Since the Grammy Awards happens to be one of music's most-watched events, I found it fitting to put my two-cents in here at Chrissy and the City.

What I took away from the 2009 Grammys

There was cougar drool for the Brothers Jonas, Carrie Underwood's gorgeous legs giving Mariah a run for her money, M.I.A. depriving every stay-at-home mom the right to complain and a pseudo-reunion of The Four Tops (minus 3 original members, go figure!)...but for me personally, nothing was more notable than Estelle and Kanye's performance of "American Boy".

Those who follow my Facebook updates will note that around 10:30pm last night I declared the "Afro-Mullet" a big mistake! A good friend of mine, Dela Yador, went on to declare it a "Frullet." Ha! While I am truly sympathetic to Mr. West's recent tough times (as revealed through a hauntingly melancholy yet genius 4th album "808s & Heartbreak"), I'm sorry buddy- absolutely nothing warrants social acceptance of the "Frullet"…thanks again Dela!

Luckily, Estelle's whimsical platinum sheath dress, flawless make-up and brilliantly-controlled live vocals saved the performance from Kanye's "Mr. Roboto" dance moves and socially-suicidal hair disaster. I guess it's true what they say "outward expression is a reflection of one's inner self."

On an positive note, I very much enjoyed the speech recognizing President Barack Obama as a 2-time Grammy winner for the voice recording of his book, "Dreams From My Father," which took 15 hours to record. What great publicity for both the Grammy Awards and our very progressive and relatable leader.

So far, the Grammy Awards, with its 51 years of show-stopping glory, takes it's place on Chrissy and the City's Top Events of 2009, snuggly behind the 56th Presidential Inauguration. Not a bad place to be, eh?
