Chrissy and the St. Claire

Tuesday, March 31, 2009
On Sunday March 29th, I had the pleasure of planning an event sponsored by Souls of My Sisters Books/Kensington Publishing which honored author and architect, Carole St. Claire Richards. Carole is a dynamic African-American female architect and real-estate developer whose journey is printed in the soon-to-be released "Tears for Triumph: Learn, Live and Thrive" (September 2009).

The event was well attended and the invite-only guest list included:

  • Reverend Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III, Pastor of the nationally renowned Abyssinian Baptist Church in the City of New York, and President of SUNY College at Old Westbury (pictured with Carole).

  • LadyBird Strickland, African-American artist best known for a long line of works documenting African American culture beginning in the 1940s.

  • Reverend Al Sharpton-minister, political and civil rights/social justice activist, and radio talk show host (pictured with Ladybird Strickland; Carole and husband, Skip).
  • Aliyyah Baylor, cake decorator and owner of Harlem's deliciously infamous bakery Make My Cake whose clients include the New York Knicks (pictured with Souls of My Sisters authors/editors Candace Sandy & Dawn Marie Daniels).
